What does an IP54 rating mean?

All of OSD Audio’s Patio Speakers have an IP54 Rating!

An IP54 rating is a way to rate the level of protection that speakers and other products have against dust and water. The “IP” stands for “Ingress Protection” and the two #’s following it indicates the level of protection. The # (5) refers to the level of protection against dust, and the # (4) refers to the level of protection against water.

The # (5) on the rating means that the speakers are protected against dust, which means that it’s protected against dust to an extent that it won’t harm the speakers. It doesn’t mean that the speakers are completely dustproof and can’t be affected by dust at all, but it’s protected enough to not cause damage to the speakers.

The # 4 on the rating means that the speakers are protected against water splashes from any direction. This means that the speakers are protected against light amounts of rain or sprinkler streams. But it’s important to note that these rating speakers are not suitable to mount or place where the speakers could be submerged in water, or mounted in any place where the speaker will be hit with constant splashes, ex. heavy rain downpour.

To summarize, an IP54 rating means that the speakers are protected against dust and water splashes, but they should not be mounted in places where they are constantly being barraged by water. This rating can be useful for speakers that are used in outdoor environments or in environments with limited weather hazards.
